(1) Students can know how to describe their hometowns and other places.
(2) Students can describe size, location, population, weather, history, places to visit and things to eat.
Ability aims:
(1) Students can collect writing materials and organize them.
(2) Students will improve their writing skills of drafting, outlining and revising.
Emotional aims:
Students’ interest of learning English can be evoked and also can form a good consciousness of loving the hometown.

Teaching procedure
Step 1 Warming up and lead-in
Present some places of interest in China on the screen. Then ask them if they have been to these places.
Step 2: Pre-writing
1. Free talk something about hometown or a place.
2. Group work.
Four students in a group. Then time for discussion. Make a list of facts about their hometown or a place they have been to, according to the following aspects: size and location, population, weather, history, places to visit, things to eat. Then ask the representatives to display their notes.
T: Which place do you want to introduce to us?
S: I want to introduce my hometown, Huainan.
